Russian industry is entering a new stage of import substitution for diesel technologies. Yaroslavl is deploying the production of a full range of Common Rail fuel systems, which are intended to replace solutions from Bosch and other foreign suppliers. The project is being implemented by the Yaroslavl Motor Plant (YaMZ) and the Yaroslavl Diesel Equipment Plant (YaZDA). This is reported by the publication “Tekhnosfera Rossiya”.

Unlike the previous approach, where different elements were supplied by separate manufacturers, now the enterprises develop and produce the entire system independently. It includes a high-pressure fuel pump, injectors, a fuel rail, an electronic control unit, and software.

Work on import substitution began several years ago. In 2016, YaZDA mastered the serial production of Common Rail pumps for YaMZ-530 family engines. The pumps create pressure up to 2000 bar with a reserve for increasing up to 2500 bar, ensuring efficient fuel atomization. The design is also designed to work with fuel of different quality, which is especially important for operation in Russian conditions.

The next stage will be equipping the latest YaMZ-770 family diesel engines. These in-line six-cylinder engines with a displacement of 12.42 liters develop from 350 to 620 horsepower and up to 2550 N·m of torque. They are equipped with an electronically controlled accumulator injection system with pressure up to 2200 bar. Serial production of engines is planned to begin by the end of 2026.

After this, the enterprises intend to localize fuel equipment for the new four-cylinder YaMZ-336 engine. This compact diesel should replace foreign power units in the segment of construction, municipal, and special equipment.

The development of production is supported by the state. YaZDA received preferential financing from the Industrial Development Fund for the creation of new capacities. The funds are aimed at organizing the production of high-pressure fuel pumps for Common Rail systems of Euro-5 and Euro-6 environmental classes. The total investment in the project exceeds 479 million rubles, and the enterprise expects to create hundreds of new jobs.

The transition from producing individual components to developing and manufacturing a full range of fuel equipment means a qualitatively new level of development for Russian diesel engine building. If the project is fully implemented, the country will have its own competence center for Common Rail systems, capable of supplying not only YaMZ engines but also other domestic diesel platforms.
