The crews of the Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile system have started shooting down Hornet attack drones. Danil, the driver-mechanic of the SAM, spoke about the details of the air defense system's operation.
Less than 20 seconds pass from target detection to its destruction. During this time, the crew takes up positions, performs aiming, and launches the missile.
We drive out early in the morning, set up, camouflage, and wait all day for work. They can arrive either early in the morning, or during the day, or in the evening.
During duty, the complex is constantly covered by a security group. According to operator Sergey Berezhnoy, the crew is fully interchangeable, and part of the crew, if necessary, transfers to the cover group.
The basic version of the Strela entered service in 1976. The vehicle, based on the MT-LB tracked transporter chassis, carries four missiles on a launcher.
Initially, the complex was developed to combat low-flying aircraft and helicopters, but in modern conditions, the Strela is used to combat drones.
