The re-issued type certificate for the regional airliner Il-114-300 at SPIEF-2026 confirmed the deep technological update of the basic Soviet platform. Despite the aircraft's historical roots dating back to the 1990s, the modern machine underwent a total redesign and completely eliminated foreign components, stated Roman Gusarov, editor-in-chief of the Avia.ru portal and aviation expert.
The basic Il-114 airframe, designed in the late 80s, was equipped with an advanced digital cockpit. The TsPNK-114M2 flight and navigation system allows flights in difficult meteorological conditions according to ICAO category.
The new TV7-117ST-01 engines received a modern FADEC-type electronic control system, which optimized fuel consumption and increased commercial efficiency.
Assessing the scale of the work done, Gusarov emphasized that the presence of a sovereign aviation school was a decisive factor in the project's fate.
The Japanese from Mitsubishi tried to make their regional aircraft SpaceJet, spent more than 10 billion dollars, and eventually closed the project. They did not have their own fundamental scientific school, specialized specialists, and proven test bases. In Russia, these competencies were preserved. The Il-114-300 project proved that large-scale aircraft manufacturing tasks are within our capabilities.
Serial production of the Il-114-300 is carried out at the Lukhovitsky Aircraft Manufacturing Plant named after P. A. Voronin.
The modernized airframe will become a key element in updating the fleet of regional airlines operating flights to remote regions of Siberia and the Far East.
