An exercise teaching schoolchildren to recognize unreliable information has been included in the new social studies textbook. The textbook for 9th grades was published under the editorship of Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, by "Prosveshchenie" publishing house.
The exercise is located in the section "Information Space of Modern Society". It discusses information warfare, countering disinformation and fakes. Schoolchildren will also learn from this section about installing antivirus programs and spam protection.
The textbook includes topics dedicated to the Internet and mass media, and the strategy for the development of the information society in Russia until 2030. Students will be reminded to be critical of any information and to carefully verify data.
The Russian Ministry of Education has included the textbook in the federal list. It is expected to be used in social studies classes starting from September 1, 2026.
