URENT has begun equipping electric scooters with proprietary trackers. The first new-generation TR10 IoT modules have already been installed on devices in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and Yekaterinburg.
For kicksharing, precise geolocation is not just a convenience. It determines whether the scooter correctly recognizes the boundaries of permitted zones, whether the user can complete the rental, and whether the device loses connection on the road.
The company claims that the pilot in four cities showed a significant increase in positioning accuracy and stability. In the future, the entire URENT fleet — over 150,000 electric scooters in 200 cities across Russia — is planned to be transferred to the new modules.
The TR10 features an improved GPS module, an antenna for a more stable 4G signal, a powerful microprocessor, and proprietary software. This reserve should be useful for future updates and new functions.
The transition to its own devices will also allow URENT to be less dependent on third-party suppliers and to independently control the quality of the trackers.
