Neural Networks in Textbooks: AI Profile to Appear in Schools from September 1st

The new specialization will be added to advanced computer science for high school students

Starting from September 1, 2026, Russian schools will begin to implement the "Artificial Intelligence" profile. It will be added to the advanced computer science curriculum, as announced by Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.

According to him, the specialization grew out of the All-Russian School Olympiad in Computer Science, where the AI profile proved to be one of the most in-demand and relevant. Now, it is planned to transfer it from the Olympiad format to the school curriculum.

Students will be introduced to the principles of neural networks, and also taught to critically evaluate AI responses and identify potential errors. This approach should help children not just use neural network tools, but understand their limitations and verify the results.

For now, the profile will appear within the framework of advanced computer science, but in the future, the program may be expanded to a wider range of students. For this purpose, the Ministry of Education has already included artificial intelligence textbooks for middle school in the federal list of textbooks.
