Gyroplanes (autogyros, gyrocopters) can become an alternative to drones for search operations and monitoring animals in protected areas. This was stated by Ruslan Ustinov, CEO of AutoGyro Russland, on the sidelines of the HeliRussia exhibition in Moscow.
A gyroplane will be in demand where direct visual contact is needed, not a camera.
According to him, a gyroplane is a "cheaper" replacement for UAVs. However, for now, only private companies buy such aircraft, Ustinov added.
At the same time, a gyroplane is a safe mode of transport, the expert emphasized. In case of engine failure, it descends in gliding mode. Unlike an airplane, the aircraft "does not have a critical stall speed and spin entry," concluded the head of AutoGyro Russland.
In its design, a gyroplane is similar to airplanes and helicopters. It takes off due to the operation of a thrust engine and a freely rotating upper rotor (autorotation effect). In Russia, a number of companies are engaged in the development of these aircraft, including "Gyroplan-RUS" (Moscow) and "GiRos" (Zhukovsky).
