The Russian Aerospace Forces currently have about 8 A-50U long-range radar detection aircraft. This was reported by the publication "Tekhnosfera Rossiya".
Analysts noted that the A-50U modification was the first serious refinement of the Soviet AWACS aircraft. The weight and volume of electronic equipment were significantly reduced due to the introduction of new systems.
The next stage in the development of domestic AWACS aircraft should be the A-100 "Premier" aircraft, the development of which began in the 2010s. The first prototype took to the skies in 2017.
However, the current state of the program is unknown, and there have been no official comments. It is known that the "Premier" AWACS was built at the Beriev Aircraft Plant in Taganrog, which faced major financial problems.
