The Tambov region has completed the preparation of an application for the creation of the industrial-production type special economic zone "Tambov" and has submitted the documents for approval to the Russian Ministry of Economic Development. As Governor Evgeny Pervyshov told TASS at the SPIEF, 13 land plots with a total area of 448.5 hectares have been allocated for the future preferential territory. Preparatory work is already underway on them.
The industrial logic behind the site selection is obvious. The future SEZ will be located in the Michurinsky district, next to a railway hub and the federal highway R-22 "Kaspiy", which will provide future residents with access to transport corridors. According to "Kommersant", the preliminary investment volume in the zone is estimated at approximately 20 billion rubles. The governor emphasized that some of the investors are Tambov enterprises that previously considered other regions for locating their facilities, and are now ready to work at the local site.
The key criterion for the competitiveness of an SEZ today is not so much tax preferences as the speed of launching production. As industry experts note, investors primarily ask how quickly they can build their plant. That is why the preparation of infrastructure even before the formal approval of the application becomes a decisive factor for the success of the future zone. The Tambov region, which remained the last region of the Chernozemye without its own SEZ, will now have to compete for residents with already developed sites in Lipetsk, Voronezh, Oryol, and Kursk.
