The Tu-214 is a Russian twin-engine passenger aircraft designed for flights up to 4.5 thousand km. The updated version of the airliner successfully passed certification tests after the complete replacement of imported equipment, materials, and components with domestic analogues.

In December 2025, the aircraft received approval for a major change in its type design – a decision that paved the way for full-scale serial production.

Earlier, Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov reported that after all modifications are completed, the serial production of the Tu-214 is planned to be rolled out in stages, reaching planned targets by 2026.

The start of deliveries means that the key stage of design adaptation has been completed, and the industry is moving towards increasing the production of an airliner in demand on the domestic market.

The aircraft fills the niche of medium-haul flights, where foreign models previously dominated. Now, the domestic aircraft with a proven design and adapted avionics is ready for regular operation.

Earlier, "Perviy Tekhnicheskiy" reported why the resumed production of the aircraft will proceed with outdated units and a three-person crew. This was stated by Honored Pilot Oleg Smirnov.
