Flight tests of a new Russian ozone converter, which protects passengers and crew from increased ozone concentration at high altitudes, have been completed on the Tu-214 aircraft. The development was carried out by specialists of JSC "Tupolev" together with JSC "OKB "Kristall"" as part of the import substitution program for aviation systems.
During test flights, engineers checked the operation of the equipment at altitudes above 10 kilometers, where the ozone concentration in the atmosphere significantly increases. Measurements in the pressurized cabin confirmed that the system effectively reduces the content of harmful gas to safe values for passengers and crew.
Flights were performed in northern latitudes, where ozone levels are traditionally higher. The tests were conducted by specialists from "Tupolev" and FSUE GosNII GA using the Tu-214 laboratory aircraft.
The new ozone converter is entirely assembled from Russian components. According to the developers, the product turned out to be almost twice lighter than foreign analogues that were previously used on Tu-204 and Tu-214 aircraft. At the same time, the design maintained full compatibility with foreign systems, which simplifies equipment replacement during operation.
