Fresh Reviews Will Wait: Kinopoisk Changes Rules Due to AI and Purchased Reviews

Publications on movie pages will be released four weeks after the premiere

Kinopoisk has temporarily changed the rules for publishing user reviews. Now, reviews for films currently in theaters will only appear on project pages four weeks after their Russian premiere.

The service explained this by an increased workload on moderators and an influx of low-quality texts. According to Kinopoisk, there is an increasing number of boosted and "purchased" reviews, including those written with the help of neural networks. At the same time, each review needs to be manually checked before publication.

Kinopoisk emphasized that reviews remain an important part of the platform. Texts written during the theatrical run do not disappear: they are published in user profiles and later appear on movie pages.

The restrictions are called temporary. The service is preparing a new version of the rules for the review section and separate protection against AI-generated texts. After this, Kinopoisk expects to return to the usual format for publishing reviews.

Changes to the user agreement appeared in mid-May, but attention was drawn to them after the publication of the specialized edition Cinemaplex. Later, Kinopoisk separately commented on the situation in its Telegram channel and asked users to suggest what should be changed in the review section.
