Russia and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have concluded an agreement on military-technical cooperation. The signing ceremony took place at the International Security Forum, which is being held from May 26 to 29 in the Moscow region. The parties do not disclose the details of the agreement.
Earlier, Afghan Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob stated at a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu that bilateral relations have reached a new level.
The agreement formalizes the existing interaction, solidifying Russia's status as a key player in the Afghan direction.
Experts believe that probable areas of cooperation could include the restoration of the Afghan helicopter fleet (Mi-8/Mi-17), the supply of spare parts and ammunition of Soviet calibers, the training of Afghan military personnel in Russian educational institutions, as well as the exchange of intelligence information in the fight against a common terrorist threat.
