Rostec's "High Precision Systems" holding company delivered the first batch of BMD-2M airborne combat vehicles to the customer, which underwent deep modernization with the installation of the "Bereg" combat compartment. As reported by the state corporation, the key difference of the updated vehicle is the integration of the "Kornet" guided missile system, which was previously only available on BMP-2M with the "Berezhok" module.
The "Bereg" combat compartment includes an advanced sighting system, an improved fire control system, and "Kornet" ATGM launchers. Thanks to this, the BMD-2M is capable of engaging tanks, fortifications, and defensive structures at an increased distance, without entering the zone of effective return fire. Additionally, the vehicle received reinforced armor protection kits and electronic warfare equipment to suppress enemy drones.
The modernization effectively brings the BMD-2M to the level of strike capabilities of modern BMPs, while retaining air-drop and air-transportability, which are critically important for the Airborne Forces. Initially, the BMD-2 was armed only with a 30-mm automatic cannon, and now it receives a missile punch capable of destroying heavy armored vehicles.
