The Rybinsk plant ODK-Saturn will have to produce at least 40 PD-8 engines per year to equip 20 new Superjets. Taking into account engine replacements, even more will be needed, for example, 45, aviation expert Roman Gusarov told "Pervy Tekhnichesky".
According to him, all documents will now be verified and documentation for the engine will be processed. This involves a huge volume; it may take up to several months to issue a type certificate.
The SJ-100 production plan is 20 aircraft per year. This means 40 engines are needed, even more, because replacement engines are required for production aircraft. Well, what if a PD-8 on some aircraft fails? Then it must be in stock.
Gusarov added that the certification of the power plant itself will not be the end of the story, because suppliers of components for the PD-8 must also obtain all necessary documents.
All co-contractors, all suppliers, everything, down to the last rivet, will be certified. But this work has been going on in parallel with engine certification for a long time. I cannot say whether everyone has already received certificates.
On May 21, the Ministry of Transport announced that the documentation for the PD-8 was submitted for examination to Rosaviatsiya. After their review and approval, the agency will decide on issuing a type certificate.
For the first time, the power plant introduced a supersonic high-pressure turbine stage with a pressure reduction ratio. Previously, such technology was only available in Airbus and Boeing aircraft engines.
