Southern Russia is preparing an energy power bank: storage systems can be strengthened by another 100 MW

The Ministry of Energy expects to launch new storage systems by next summer

Additional energy storage systems with a total capacity of 100 MW may appear in southern Russia. The Ministry of Energy expects that they will be built within a year or by the end of 2026. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy Evgeny Grabchak.

Such storage systems are needed to balance the load in the power system and increase the reliability of electricity supply, especially during periods of peak consumption. According to Grabchak, the implementation time depends on a number of parameters, so the exact date is not yet guaranteed.

The Deputy Minister noted that the project could be implemented by Rosseti, which is already involved in the direction of storage systems. In the south, according to him, the contractors have already been identified, so work there may proceed faster.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Energy, Sergey Tsivilev, said that by the beginning of the summer season, 250 MW of electricity storage systems are planned to be commissioned in the Krasnodar Krai. They should help stabilize the situation with electricity demand. The department also noted that the construction of such systems may be cheaper than launching traditional generation facilities.
