The first engineering development center in Russia, "Advanced Electrical Engineering," has opened in St. Petersburg. According to TASS, the site was jointly launched by the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" and the Kursk Electrical Apparatus Plant (KEAZ) with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The center aims to create a full cycle: from R&D to commercialization and personnel training.
The work is structured along four technological tracks. The first direction is promising power conversion technology, the second is energy storage systems. The third track covers Internet of energy technologies, i.e., digitally controlled power interfaces and algorithms for hybrid distributed energy systems. The fourth direction is marine electrical engineering. Within these tracks, digital twins, prototypes of scalable energy conversion and transmission systems, and charging infrastructure will be created at the site.
For KEAZ, a leader in the electrical engineering market, the project provides for the expansion of its product line. Andrey Kanunnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the group, noted that from the perspective of R&D and finding new solutions, it is critically important for the plant to interact with leading universities in the country. For LETI, which celebrates its 140th anniversary this year, the center provides for the development of its material and technical base and human resources.
In fact, the launch of the center closes the "engineering school - factory" link, removing dependence on imported solutions in the power electronics and storage segment from the agenda.
