The Russian Ministry of Energy proposed to increase the capacity of energy storage systems in the south of the country to 450 MW and additionally install new facilities in the Krasnodar Krai. The initiative will be submitted for consideration by the government commission for the development of electric power. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy Pyotr Konyushenko at the Caucasian Investment Forum.
According to him, a decision had previously been made to introduce additional generation in southern Russia of approximately 2.1 GW. These plans include the construction of 100 MW energy storage facilities in Crimea and 250 MW in the Krasnodar Krai.
Now, taking into account the operational and balance situation in the energy system, the department proposes to increase the total capacity of storage facilities by another 100 MW, bringing it to 450 MW, with the main increase planned to be provided by facilities in Kuban – up to 350 MW.
