The Arbitration Court fined JSC "Mosproekt-3" – the general contractor for the construction of the metrotram in Chelyabinsk – 300 thousand rubles. According to EAN, the lawsuit against the company was filed by the Ural Department of Rostekhnadzor, which identified violations of mandatory requirements in the field of construction and the use of building materials.
The Chelyabinsk metrotram project started in 2023 and became a "reincarnation" of the classic metro, the construction of which had been frozen for many years. The "North – South" line, over 9 km long, includes two underground stations and three regular tram stops, and is planned to be completed in 2027. An "East – West" branch is also planned. "Mosproekt-3" is the general contractor for the project, with the cost of work amounting to 49.5 billion rubles. In early April, construction entered a new phase: mechanized tunneling of the second inter-station tunnel from the "Ovchinnikova Street" stop began.
Two tunnel boring machines are used for tunneling – "Maria" and "Polina". "Maria" is a modernized machine that previously worked on the Moscow Metro's ring line; its rotor was replaced for Chelyabinsk's rocky ground. "Polina" has been tunneling since December 2025 and has already covered more than 150 meters in difficult geological conditions. Simultaneously, three-section cars designed for underground-surface use are being tested in the city. The launch of the metrotram is still scheduled for 2027.
