Submarines "Ufa" and "Komsomolsk-on-Amur" performed anti-submarine tasks in the Sea of Japan

Exercises of Project 636.3 "Varshavyanka" and Project 877 "Paltus" submarines included simulated torpedo firings

Diesel-electric submarines (SSK) "Ufa" (Project 636.3 "Varshavyanka") and "Komsomolsk-on-Amur" (Project 877 "Paltus") from the Pacific Fleet performed anti-submarine tasks in the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the fleet's press service.

The submarine crews searched for and tracked a simulated enemy submarine. The sailors simulated torpedo firing without using weapons. The maneuvers were carried out according to the combat training plan of the Pacific Fleet.

"Ufa" is the fourth of six Project 636.3 "Varshavyanka" submarines ordered for the Pacific Fleet. It was laid down at the Admiralty Shipyards in 2019. The submarine was launched in 2022. According to NATO classification, it belongs to the Improved Kilo class.

Characteristics of the "Ufa" submarine:

  • Submerged speed — 20 knots
  • Maximum diving depth — 300 m
  • Cruising range — 400 miles
  • Crew — 52 people
  • Endurance — 45 days

"Komsomolsk-on-Amur" was laid down at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant in 1991. The submarine joined the Pacific Fleet in late 1992. According to NATO classification, it belongs to the Kilo class.

  • Crew — 57 people

Both submarines are armed with high-precision "Kalibr" cruise missiles.
