Ordinary apartment, 21 SIM boxes and thousands of SIM cards: the largest fraudsters' center uncovered in St. Petersburg

According to the investigation, the equipment was used to support telephone scams against Russians

In St. Petersburg, law enforcement officers liquidated the largest known technical center in the city, which, according to the investigation, was used to support telephone fraudsters. TASS sources in law enforcement agencies reported this.

Searches were conducted in an apartment on Krasnoselskoe Highway. According to the investigation, it was from there that the technical support for fraudulent schemes was carried out. During the operation, the center's administrator was detained – he placed 21 SIM boxes in one of the rooms. In addition, law enforcement officers seized more than 6 thousand SIM cards from various operators.

Upon checking the equipment, it was found that since April, the man had registered about 1.5 thousand accounts in one of the messengers and about 500 more in a social network. All of them were registered through his individual entrepreneurship, and access to the accounts, according to law enforcement, was then sold for use in fraudulent schemes against Russians.

Currently, specialists are blocking the created accounts. A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under several articles, including illegal use of equipment for traffic transmission and organization of data transfer for user registration on the Internet.

According to the investigation, the defendant could face up to eight years in prison.
