AvtoVAZ does not rule out the development of a self-driving car. This was stated by the head of the company, Maxim Sokolov, at the congress of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia in Moscow.
Of course, why not? The whole world is moving towards autonomy.
Sokolov emphasized that even in the B-segment, where AvtoVAZ traditionally operates, elements of autonomous driving are already becoming a reality.
This refers to ADAS systems – driver assistants that take over some control functions: emergency braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control. Such options are already available in certain trim levels of current AvtoVAZ models.
The head of AvtoVAZ did not name specific dates for the appearance of a fully self-driving car under the Lada brand. However, his words indicate an important shift in strategy: the Russian automotive giant is ready to adapt to the technological trend, even while operating in the budget segment.
The implementation of autonomous functions in mass-produced models is a matter not only of engineering readiness, but also of regulation, infrastructure, and consumer trust. AvtoVAZ, judging by the statements of its management, intends to move in this direction in stages, starting with expanding the package of assistants in production cars.
