Russia and India may create a new PD-10 aircraft engine, which will occupy an intermediate niche between PD-8 and PD-14. The power plant will be useful for both transport and civil aviation, said aviation expert Sergey Marzhetsky.
According to him, the appearance of such an engine could affect the structure of a number of aviation programs.
First of all, it is necessary to create a PD-10 engine with a thrust of about 10–11 tons. It could be suitable for aircraft like the Be-200 and the promising light military transport Il-212.
The analyst emphasized that possible cooperation with India fits into the strategy of expanding international cooperation for the aviation industry.
Recall that the current line of "PD" series engines includes the PD-8 for the SJ-100, the PD-14 for the MS-21-310, and the prospective PD-35 for a new long-haul aircraft. There were also reports online about plans for the PD-26, but no experimental design work has even been carried out on this power plant.
