Russia needs the new high-thrust PD-35 engine for long-distance cargo and passenger transportation, but making it economical is extremely difficult. This was acknowledged by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov.
He noted that only two countries in the world possess the technologies for designing and manufacturing engines with thrust exceeding 40 tons.
Given our distances and territories, such an engine is necessary for the development of passenger and cargo transportation. In general, creating a modern, economical engine in this class is extremely difficult.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" that the PD-35 will be the pinnacle of domestic technologies, but its development is more complex than launching a rocket into space.
Meanwhile, aviation engineer Valery Ageev stated that the PD-35 does not live up to high expectations, delivering 26 tons of thrust instead of the promised 35 tons.
