The Uralvagonzavod concern linked the current state defense order to historical context. As reported by the company's press service, during the Great Patriotic War, almost half of all medium tanks produced in the Soviet Union – about 50 thousand units – were manufactured by three factories: in Nizhny Tagil, Chelyabinsk, and Omsk. All of them are now part of the concern.
UVZ head Alexander Potapov drew a direct parallel between the legendary T-34 and modern vehicles:
At one time, the legendary T-34 fully met the demands of its era. It became not just a combat vehicle – a tank of Victory. And today, in battle, our T-72, T-80, and T-90 also meet modern challenges, combat conditions, and new threats. But these are different tanks. These are new technical solutions, born from a galaxy of young and talented engineer-designers.
According to him, the key advantage of the current school is its ability to quickly respond to changing conditions, adapt, and maintain superiority on the battlefield.
In addition to tanks, UVZ supplies engineering armored vehicles and flamethrower systems to the troops, and also produces products for the civilian sector of the economy. Not only the concern's own enterprises but also a multidisciplinary cooperation chain – from state and commercial companies to research institutes – work on the creation and refinement of equipment.
