Russia and India may establish cooperation in cybersecurity and the protection of information structures, especially amid increasing attacks on satellite constellations, said Petr Topychkanov, head of the new challenges sector in South and Southeast Asia at the Center for the Indo-Pacific Region, IMEMO RAS.
The expert noted that India places great emphasis on the development of information technologies, which simultaneously makes the country more vulnerable. Russia, according to him, is under constant pressure from cyberattacks, and India faces the same problem. An adversary, competitor, or non-state actors can inflict enormous damage to the economy and security without shooting down satellites, but by turning them into "flying iron" using cyber means. In this area, the expert believes, cooperation in cybersecurity and the protection of complex information structures is possible, given the growing number of Indian satellites.
Among other promising areas of cooperation, Topychkanov highlighted the training and launch of Indian cosmonauts on spacecraft, as well as the further creation of a national orbital station. In addition, India could pay attention to Russian experience in the application of artificial intelligence and automated solutions in space, he added.
