US reveals details of new 300 km range missile for Su-57

MWM: S-71K will be a cheap alternative to classic munitions

Western analysts are confident that the Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57 has begun to use the new S-71K "Kovyor" missile, which combines the features of a cruise missile and a drone. This is reported by Military Watch Magazine, citing its own sources.

According to journalists, the new weapon was first used in combat conditions in 2025. Initially, Western experts assumed that it was another version of an aerial bomb with UMPK, but later concluded that the S-71K is a full-fledged cruise missile.

The main feature of the complex is its focus on reducing the cost of mass strikes. The US believes that "Kovyor" was created as a more affordable alternative to the Kh-59MK2 missile, which has a range of 300 km.

Analysts added that the new missile will allow the Su-57 to use high-precision weapons significantly cheaper than classic cruise missiles. At the same time, some technologies are likely borrowed from drones, which should simplify production and reduce the cost of the product.

Military expert Boris Dzherelievsky explained that the design and guidance system of the S-71K increase the missile's resistance to electronic warfare systems.

Recently, detailed photos of the engine for the "Kovyor" missile appeared online.
