The first photo of the engine of the new S-71K "Kovyor" cruise missile for the Su-57 fighter jet has appeared online. The loitering munition carries a 250 kg warhead and can hit targets at a distance of up to 300 km.
Analysts of the Telegram channel "Voenny Osvedomitel" clarified that the missile uses a small-sized REYNOLDS R500 turbofan engine.
It is known that the power plant is produced by the Moscow-based company "Reynolds". Since 2024, the enterprise has been part of the United Engine Corporation.
The publication "Tekhnosfera Rossiya" noted that the S-71K should be more accurately called a guided module for placing bombs of various calibers, rather than a cruise missile.
That is, it is possible to use not only the inexpensive OFAB-250-270 bomb as a warhead, but also other options. It turns out that this is essentially an air-launched attack UAV.
Military expert Boris Dzherelievsky stated that the design and guidance system of the S-71K increase the missile's resistance to electronic warfare systems.
