The intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) "Oreshnik" may be in a state of readiness for combat use. This was stated by State Duma deputy Andrey Gurulyov.
According to him, the IRBM is in such a state in case of an escalation of the situation.
It is quite possible that it is somewhere there, and ready for immediate use. This is normal practice.
Earlier it became known that the airspace over the Kapustin Yar military training ground in the Astrakhan region was closed from May 5 to May 8. It is at this facility that ballistic missiles, including intermediate-range ones, as well as the latest anti-aircraft developments, are tested.
Former colonel of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) Nikolay Shabaltas stated that existing air defense systems are not capable of intercepting "Oreshnik" due to its enormous speed.
The warheads of the "Oreshnik" IRBM accelerate to 13,475 km/h. A video appeared online demonstrating the speed difference with other hypersonic missiles.
