Military Watch Magazine (MWM) noted that the modernized Buk-M3 surface-to-air missile system is considered one of the best countermeasures against HIMARS rockets, as well as other Western-made high-precision munitions used by the Russian army.
The publication emphasizes that thanks to updated radar and new missiles, the system is capable of engaging high-speed small-sized targets, including rockets and elements of tactical missile systems.
The article also notes that the complex has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to hit a wide range of aerial threats.
The publication emphasizes that the Buk-M3 occupies an intermediate niche in the Russian air defense system: it complements the long-range S-400s, but significantly surpasses the short-range Pantsir-S and Tor-M2 in terms of range and ballistic target interception capabilities. This multi-layered structure, as Military Watch Magazine notes, increases the resilience of the defense even against massive strikes.
MWM relies on reports from Russian military experts who state that the Buk-M3 is capable of automatically detecting and tracking targets, leaving the operator only to confirm the launch. At the same time, its ability to effectively counter HIMARS and similar systems is confirmed by combat experience.
