The Russian Buk-M3 surface-to-air missile system destroyed a HIMARS rocket, expending just one missile. The precise interception was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
Air defense crews detected the target while on combat duty and promptly carried out the interception, noted the crew commander with the call sign Taiga.
Recently, we shot down one of those; the target was hit, expenditure — one missile, it performed as intended.
According to him, HIMARS rockets are distinguished by high speed and a low flight trajectory, which complicates their interception.
Complex high-speed targets do not travel along a ballistic trajectory, but at low altitudes. But the system allows us to detect and track them confidently.
According to the specialized Telegram channel "Russkoe oruzhie," the system's missiles are capable of intercepting targets at ranges of up to 70 km and speeds of up to 3,000 m/s, including low-observable objects.
Recall that the Buk-M3 system was developed at V. Tikhomirov NIIP on the basis of the Soviet Buk-M2. Serial production of the system began in 2016.
