US Ally May Purchase 48 Su-35 Fighters Instead of F-35s

Soha: Morocco Considers Purchasing Two Squadrons from Russia

Moroccan authorities may reconsider plans to purchase American F-35 fighters and are exploring the possibility of acquiring Russian Su-35s. This was reported by Soha.

According to the source, at least two squadrons of Su-35s are being discussed – 48 aircraft. The authors of the publication called Morocco a major non-NATO US ally since 2004.

The African nation currently operates American F-16C/D Block 72 fighters, but they are already outdated. For example, neighboring Algeria is already testing fifth-generation Su-57 fighters.

It should be noted that military-technical cooperation between Russia and Morocco is not very well developed. However, in 2004–2005, the kingdom purchased 12 Tunguska-M1 anti-aircraft systems, and before that, Kornet-E and Metis ATGM systems.
