The Royal Malaysian Air Force gave very high marks to the Russian Su-30MKM fighters after nearly 20 years of service. This was reported by Russian Ambassador to the Asian country Nail Latypov.
He described this attitude toward domestic equipment as a good foundation for developing military-technical cooperation between the countries.
I spoke with Malaysian pilots, and the reviews are the most positive. This is, naturally, a source of pride for us.
In August 2003, Malaysia signed a contract to purchase 18 Su-30 fighters in the MKM modification. The press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that the value of the deal was $900 million.
The aircraft were delivered in batches from 2007 to 2009; how many of them are currently combat-ready is unknown.
Su-30 modifications have become the most widely sold among other Russian fighters. They are also operated in China, Vietnam, Angola, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and a number of other countries.
