Navio conducted tests of an unmanned highway tractor at the FSUE "NAMI" proving ground. In autonomous mode, the truck covered 2,800 kilometers without a driver in the cab, reaching speeds of up to 83 km/h.
During the tests, the unmanned vehicle successfully changed lanes, went around obstacles, and stopped at traffic lights. The trials were conducted during the day and at night. Control was handled by artificial intelligence — remote intervention was not used.
The company explained that the test conditions corresponded to Level 4 automation under the SAE classification. In the event of an emergency, the tractor was ready to independently perform a minimal-risk maneuver and stop safely.
Navio has been developing a universal autonomous driving technology based on artificial intelligence since 2020. Today, the company has one of the largest teams in Russia in the field of unmanned technologies — more than 800 specialists. Navio's fleet of autonomous vehicles includes over 220 units. In addition to cargo tractors, the company has developed the autonomous L5 shuttle, capable of carrying up to 36 passengers without a driver.
Navio is also developing the photorealistic NavioSim simulator for training and testing AI drivers in thousands of virtual scenarios.
