The press service of the online platform officially confirmed to RIA Novosti that the names Max and "Maks" are equivalent and will be used in parallel in communications and branding. The international version has been retained for the service's development in foreign markets.
At the same time, a split has already occurred in app stores: the Cyrillic "Maks" is displayed in RuStore and Google Play, and also in Cyrillic on the official website, while the Latin Max remains in the App Store. The developer's legal entity is registered as OOO "MAKh".
At the same time as the rebranding, the service, like a number of other major Russian platforms, stopped opening when VPN is enabled. When attempting to log in, users are prompted to disable the circumvention tool or switch to offline mode. The restrictions were introduced as part of the Ministry of Digital Development's recommendations to reduce the share of traffic routed through foreign tunnels.
By the beginning of April, the platform's audience had reached 110 million registrations, and more than 80 million people use the messenger daily.
