The "Severomorsk" Project 1155 armed with the "Kinzhal" air defense system

The appearance of the Russian large anti-submarine ship "Severomorsk" Project 1155 off the coast of Germany raised questions — it was spotted in the Baltic Sea near the island of Fehmarn. Footage of the ship has spread on social networks.

Officially, the tasks of the ship are not disclosed, however, its route coincides with the area of active navigation. Against this background, a version appeared that the "Severomorsk" could escort civilian vessels, including oil tankers.

Similar episodes have already occurred. Earlier, the Russian frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" was spotted in the English Channel during the passage of two tankers, which indicates a possible strengthening of control over the safety of maritime transport.

"Severomorsk" returned to service after repairs in Kronstadt in 2024. The ship received updated systems and weapons, including the Kinzhal anti-aircraft system, designed to protect against air threats. The basis of its strike capabilities are anti-ship missiles and torpedo weapons.
