Law enforcement agencies detained a Russian citizen in St. Petersburg who tried to transfer parts for repairing the engines of Project 636.3 Varshavyanka submarines to a foreigner. This was reported by the press service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
The movement of products abroad was not allowed.
A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Article 189 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on illegal export and transfer of technologies, weapons and military equipment to a foreign state. The man was sent into custody. He faces from 3 to 7 years of imprisonment.
Project 636.3 Varshavyanka submarines (according to the NATO codification— Improved Kilo) are considered one of the most stealthy and silent in the world. In addition to the Russian Navy, submarines are in service with China, Algeria and Vietnam.
