A detachment of Pacific Fleet ships, consisting of the diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" (Project 636.3 Varshavyanka), the corvette "Gromky" (Project 20380), and the sea tug "Andrey Stepanov" (23470), departed from the port of Jakarta into the Java Sea and practiced joint maneuvering with Indonesian corvettes, the fleet's press service reported.
Russian sailors also conducted training in organizing communications with the Indonesian Navy's "Lambung Mangkurat" and "Chiptadi" corvettes. The main objective of the maneuvers was to enhance the level of interaction and coordination among the sailors.
The Pacific Fleet ship detachment arrived in the Indonesian capital on March 29. Following the completion of the business visit, the submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky", the corvette "Gromky", and the tug "Andrey Stepanov" continued their long voyage to perform tasks in the Asia-Pacific region.
About the quietest submarines of the Russian Navy
The Project 636.3 Varshavyanka submarines are equipped with low-speed propulsion electrical equipment. This has led to their acoustic stealth, making them virtually silent. In the West, these submarines are called "black holes".
"Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" is a carrier of high-precision Kalibr cruise missiles. The submarine secures the interests of the Russian Federation in strategic areas of the Asia-Pacific region.
