Now Officially: Putin Orders Implementation of AI Technologies in Medical Practice

Neural networks will help automate the analysis of laboratory test results

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to ensure the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine. New technologies will help in interpreting the results of laboratory tests. This is stated in the list of instructions published on the Kremlin website.

According to the document, the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, with the participation of the government of Moscow, should promote the integration of AI technologies, including "for automating data analysis processes." Putin demanded that he be provided with a report on the activities carried out no later than December 1, 2026.

The head of state also instructed the government to consider the possibility of introducing Russian digital assistants into the healthcare sector and synchronizing information systems. Putin expects a report on this issue by August 1, 2026.

How doctors use AI in Russia

Currently, AI technologies are being introduced into medical institutions in the country in an experimental mode. Doctors most often use neural networks to analyze the results of CT, MRI, and X-rays.

In addition, digital assistants scan the patient's electronic medical records and study his complaints, and then offer assistance in making a diagnosis. The doctor can use this information as a second opinion, but the final decision in diagnosis and treatment remains with the person.
