A GOST for AI Systems in Healthcare Has Been Developed in Russia

The national standard established terms in the field of healthcare digitalization

A national standard for artificial intelligence (AI, GOST R 72484-2025) systems in the healthcare sector has been developed in Russia. The document was published on the official website of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart).

The GOST establishes the basic terms of digitalization in healthcare. The document states that AI technologies are considered a key tool of digital transformation in this field.

AI systems are now widely used in diagnosing various diseases, including diabetes and oncology.

The improvement and implementation of AI will contribute to the development of the entire healthcare system, including clinical practice, management, morbidity monitoring, and epidemiological surveillance.
Excerpt from GOST R 72484-2025

All AI systems were divided into 2 groups:

  • medical devices with AI technologies
  • AI-based services

Medical devices are used for disease diagnosis, patient condition monitoring, and analysis of medical examinations. AI services are used for reporting, data processing, and communication with patients (chatbots).

Most AI systems are an auxiliary tool for the physician; only a small portion operates without the physician's involvement. At the same time, the user of such systems has the right to correct or challenge the result of the AI's work, as well as to give the patient their own recommendations.
