Comet C/2026 A1, rapidly approaching the Sun, has come into the field of view of the main global coronagraph — the LASCO instrument, according to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI RAN. Now you can follow the fate of the celestial body almost live.
As of 10 a.m. Moscow time, the comet was 7 million kilometers from the Sun. The estimated time of maximum approach is April 4 at about 17:22 Moscow time. It is at this moment that the last hour of the celestial body will most likely come.
In the last hours before the approach, the comet will also appear with a higher resolution in another (red) channel of the coronagraph, which captures the areas closest to the Sun.
Still alive. Waiting for destruction. Or a miracle.
