Moscow gives the green light to scooters: rental returns from April 1

The capital opens another kicksharing season, strengthening control over users

The electric scooter season officially starts in Moscow — from April 1, citizens will again be able to rent kicksharing transport. The launch was timed to coincide with the onset of "climatic spring," the Moscow Department of Transportation reported.

This year, the fleet remained at the level of the previous year: about 60 thousand scooters. In addition to them, users have access to 16 thousand electric bicycles, 4 thousand electric scooters, as well as 250 regular bicycles.

But rental is still not for everyone. Only adults will be able to rent transport — after mandatory verification via Mos ID.

The city continues to tighten control. Currently, there are more than 420 "slow zones" in Moscow, where scooters automatically reduce speed. Compliance with the rules is monitored not only by service operators, but also by the traffic police together with the situation center — more than 100 violation detection cameras are already operating in the city.

If the weather turns bad, services may temporarily suspend rentals.

At the same time, interest in kicksharing remains high, despite the risks. In 2025, Russia recorded about 3.2 thousand accidents involving scooters — 26% less than the year before. However, this did not completely solve the problem: 68 people died, and more than 3 thousand were injured.

Against this background, the authorities continue to tighten the screws: the Ministry of Transport and the traffic police are already introducing new rules for personal mobility devices, and the State Duma is considering amendments with increased fines for violators.
