MAI is developing AI-powered drones that can operate without GPS and communication

The solution will allow drones to recognize objects and bypass obstacles without human intervention

Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) is developing advanced drones with built-in artificial intelligence that can continue to operate even when the GPS signal is lost.

Speaking about the direction of drones with artificial intelligence at MAI, the work is focused on the development of various systems for automated monitoring and recognition. The key focus is on increasing the autonomy of the devices: creating navigation systems that are resistant to GPS loss, developing onboard computer vision and AI algorithms that allow the drone to not only collect data, but also analyze the situation and make decisions directly in flight

The development includes the creation of systems that will not only increase the range of drones, but also increase their level of autonomy. The use of new technologies makes it possible to create a map of the area, recognize objects on the fly and minimize the need for operator intervention, which is especially important for rescue operations and monitoring dangerous areas.

New opportunities for the use of drones in extreme conditions make them more reliable and safe. Thanks to modern systems, such drones will be able to work effectively even in complex and poorly understood environments.
