Rules for Money Transfers in Russia to Change from April 1: What to Write Now When Sending Funds

Banks, companies, and senders will have to fill in payment details more accurately

From April 1, 2026, changes to the rules for transferring funds come into force in Russia. Certain requirements for filling out payments are changing: in some cases, it will be necessary to provide more data about the payer and disclose the purpose of the payment in more detail.

Meri Valishvili, Associate Professor at the Department of State and Municipal Finance at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, revealed the details of the changes. According to her, the changes are technical in nature and are aimed at making the national payment system more perfect and bringing it into line with international standards.

The main change is that now, when making transfers, you need to provide more information about the payer. Legal entities and banks must specify the full or abbreviated name, and individuals must specify the full last name, first name, and patronymic.

Individual entrepreneurs are required to indicate the full name and their legal status, and those engaged in private practice must also indicate the type of activity along with the taxpayer identification number. In other words, the data in payments should become more accurate and complete.

The requirements for the purpose of payment are also changing. Now it will be necessary to describe in detail what exactly the money is being transferred for. This refers to the name of goods, works or services, as well as the numbers and dates of contracts and commercial documents. Additional information can be added, but the total volume is limited - no more than 210 characters.

A new detail also appears - the "actual payer". It is needed in cases where the money is transferred not by the person himself, but by his representative, for example, an accountant under a power of attorney. In such a situation, it will be necessary to indicate the data of the payer himself, his TIN or the reason code for registration, or the full name of the individual.
