Initially, the equipment was designed for the Baltic NPP several years ago. After the construction was frozen, engineers reassembled the project to meet new conditions and requirements of the nuclear industry. The design was adapted to the architecture of the Leningrad NPP-2 and current safety regulations.

In the near future, specialists will begin assembly and welding work for the service platform and the supply valve. These units will be manufactured from scratch, taking into account updated standards and loads.

The modernization is being carried out in cooperation with Concern Titan-2. Engineers are solving a complex problem: preserving the reliable design solutions of the basic version while simultaneously introducing modern technologies and materials. This approach speeds up adaptation and increases the operational stability of the equipment.

After the completion of the work cycle, the core catcher will become part of the power unit's safety systems. As a reminder, the core melt localization device weighing about 730 tons is one of the passive safety systems of a nuclear power plant.
