Traveler Konyukhov tested Rosatom's energy storage devices in Antarctica

Eco-friendly energy replaced diesel in the expedition to Smolensk Island

Russian explorer Fedor Konyukhov has completed a solo expedition to Antarctica. The main technical outcome of the trip was the successful testing of energy storage devices from the state corporation "Rosatom". The equipment worked in the extreme conditions of Smolensk Island without failure and demonstrated high reliability.

Engineers of the corporation created these devices specifically for operation at polar stations. The traveler acted as a tester and used two storage devices for four months. The equipment demonstrated high efficiency and effectiveness in real operating conditions, which is confirmed by empirical data and practical experience.

The camp's power supply was entirely dependent on the new devices. Diesel generators were not used. Solar panels only charged mobile phones, while the satellite terminal and all other equipment were powered by Rosatom's storage devices. The capacity of the devices allowed for stable operation of scientific instruments without the use of fuel.

The successful experiment confirmed the possibility of replacing outdated power sources with environmentally friendly alternatives in challenging climatic zones. Old batteries at Antarctic stations often pollute the environment, so new developments are important for preserving the region's nature. Tests have proven that modern storage devices can fully replace harmful batteries.
