Rosenergoatom Concern (part of Rosatom) and Titan-2 Holding have signed a contract for the construction of two power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-600) at Kola NPP-2, the concern's press service reported.
The project is entering the practical stage. The general contractor is Titan-2 Holding, which is implementing the largest nuclear construction projects in Russia and abroad.
VVER-600 is a new medium-capacity power unit. Such reactors have a number of advantages, allowing to:
- reduce capital and operating costs by reducing the metal consumption of the reactor plant
- ensure safety no lower than the requirements for "3+" generation NPPs
The design service life of the main equipment of the power unit is at least 60 years.
In total, it is planned to build 4 power units at Kola NPP-2, which is due to the growth of energy consumption in the Murmansk region. Large industrial projects are also being developed in the region, including by NOVATEK, Nornickel, and Rosatom.
