Service Life of Russia's Main Nuclear Submarines "Borei-A" Announced

Submarines will remain in the Navy at least until the 2050s

Strategic nuclear submarines (SSBNs) of projects 955 "Borei" and 955A "Borei-A" will remain in the Russian Navy at least until the 2050s. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Alexander Moiseyev.

The admiral confirmed that the missile submarines are in a state of the highest combat readiness. This is confirmed by regular inspections.

"Borei" is guaranteed to serve Russia until the middle of this century, and maybe even longer, because this project has significant modernization potential.

As a reminder, the Navy includes eight submarines of project 955 and 955A. All ships are carriers of Bulava ballistic missiles with a range of more than 9000 km.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reported in July 2025 that the Sevmash plant plans to build six nuclear submarines within five years. The company has already begun to increase production capacity, according to the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, Alexander Tsybulsky.
