Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a visit to Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region, took part in the flag-raising ceremony on the nuclear submarine "Knyaz Pozharsky". The submarine of project 955A "Borey-A" has joined the Russian Navy.
During the event, Putin listened to reports from the leadership of the Russian Navy. After that, the head of state allowed the flag to be raised.
Such ships form the basis of the naval strategic nuclear forces and, taking into account the modernization resource, will ensure the security of our state in the coming decades. In the near future, the new missile carrier will defend the maritime borders and security of the Fatherland.
The ceremony was also attended by the head of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, and Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Alexander Moiseev.
"Knyaz Pozharsky" is the eighth in the series of "Borey" and "Borey-A" nuclear submarines. The cruiser was laid down in December 2016.
The submarine has high maneuverability and acoustic stealth. It carries 16 intercontinental ballistic missiles "Bulava". "Knyaz Pozharsky" is the 142nd submarine built at Sevmash.
