Mini-robots for the first time in the Moscow Metro: the right bypass tunnel was completed at the "Dostoyevskaya" Circle Line

Construction in the center of Moscow is being carried out in conditions of dense construction, water inflow and a mass of underground utilities

Builders have completed the right bypass tunnel at the "Dostoyevskaya" station of the Circle Line of the Moscow Metro. This was announced by the Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, in his Telegram channel. The left bypass tunnel was completed a little earlier. The overall readiness of the station, taking into account mining operations, is 44% today. Bypass tunnels allow trains to be restarted and the existing Circle Line not to be closed during construction. The work was carried out using the mining method due to the proximity to existing metro facilities — small-scale mechanization equipment was used in certain areas, including mini-robots. According to Sobyanin, mini-robots are currently used in Moscow metro construction only at "Dostoyevskaya".

Dostoyevskaya Station on the Circle Line: where it will be built and how it is arranged

The station will be located between "Novoslobodskaya" and "Prospekt Mira". Two lobbies are designed: an underground one — under Durov Street at the intersection with Delegatskaya Street, and an above-ground one — at the intersection of Durov Street and Olimpiysky Prospekt. The above-ground lobby will be connected to the station by an underground passage with travellators.

Construction is being carried out in conditions of triple complication: dense urban development on the surface, abundant water inflow and saturation of the underground space with engineering communications. Sobyanin called "Dostoyevskaya" one of the most complex projects in the history of the Moscow Metro.

Its image is based on a subtle combination of Art Deco aesthetics and cultural associations related to the life and legacy of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky. The interiors are designed in a noble and restrained plasticity of natural stone

Key parameters of the construction of the Dostoyevskaya station

  • Line: Circle
  • Location: between the stations "Novoslobodskaya" and "Prospekt Mira"
  • Readiness: 44% taking into account mining operations
  • Method of tunneling: mining method
  • Feature: the use of mini-robots — for the first time in the Moscow Metro at an operating facility
  • Lobbies: two — underground on Durov St. / Delegatskaya St. and above-ground on Durov St. / Olimpiysky Prospekt
  • Connection of lobbies: underground passage with travellators
  • Architectural concept: Art Deco, natural stone, Dostoevsky theme

The use of mini-robots for manual tunneling in difficult areas is a technological precedent for Moscow metro construction. Until now, such equipment has not been used on existing construction sites of the capital's metro. The completion of both bypass tunnels means that the Circle Line will maintain its normal operating mode for the entire duration of the further construction of "Dostoyevskaya" — without closing the section.
